Day Dreaming of Summer

We have been blessed with some beautiful days here, but unfortunately with our little mini blizzard the other day and the cold temps although its nice the trails are still packed with snow and a lot of ice. With my new found hobby of losing weight in a hurry I have resorted to walking the bike path a few miles in front of our house rather then hiking, hence not a lot of photos taken. While walking today with the sun beaming down I thought about how soon summer will be upon us and time to head out camping. We have started somewhat of a tradition of going camping on Memorial Day weekend (2 out of 3 years now). Instead of backpacking miles and miles into the woods we drive out of town and onto a beach somewhere and I do mean ONTO and set up camp. Last year we drove down to Chiniak and spent 3 peaceful days laying out on a beach that was about a 1/4 mile in length with not another soul around. On the second day our friends came by and we enjoyed a fire while eating hot dogs and king crab (tough life). below are some of the photos of that weekend.

This was taken above where we camped, again the whole beach to ourselves.

This rock formation was at the other end of the beach and these eagles sat in their nest all weekend watching us.

This Harbor Seal wandered in on us at sunset to see what was going on or maybe he just wanted a wiener.

On day 2 while enjoying peace and total silence we heard this strange noise that we couldn't figure out. Then all of a sudden from around the bend this Grey whale came swimming by, he was no more then 100' off the beach. I was so excited that I just watched in awe instead of grabbing the camera, here he had already passed us once and was now making his way out of the bay.

By the end of day 2 both of us were glowing, that happens when you spend 16 hours in the sun

At around 11 PM the Mrs. was in full blown sunstroke. That night we both shivered like crazy even though it was not cold. By the way we did the same thing the first year, hopefully this year we will finally smarten up
