For those of you who are not familiar with Portland and have always wondered what happened to the hippies from the 60's. You have to only look as far as Saturday Market in Old Town Portland. Here every Saturday and Sunday artists from all over the state come and sell their art. There are also cool events and crazies running all around.
This guy was playing a mean (funky lookin) guitar. The cool thing is he only has half an arm and was playing so good you would never have known. He was worth donating a few bucks to
So there are a lot of homeless people with lots of different signs. At this point in my existence I'm pretty good determining who needs a buck or two and who is looking for someone to pay for their next fix. I have to give this guy mad props, he isn't wasting any time or trying to pull any ones leg.
No word of a lie this guy thinks he is Elvis. He has been performing (poorly I might add) since my first trip to Saturday Market 5 years ago
So with the mile and a half walk to and from the market and then walking around for an hour we had a good urban hike today and acquired a big thirst
Off to Kells Irish Pub for a quick pint. Kells boasts the biggest St. Patty's Day party on the west coast and has been named the #1 Irish Pub in the nation (the Black Rose was voted #2, but I disagree). Here is the Mrs. with her new Oliver Twist hat that she bought at the market.
After the pint it was off to Powell's City of Books which is the largest independently owned book store in the world. The store consists of 4 floors and takes up a city block. Personally I find it overwhelming but the Mrs. could spend a week in there. All in all a nice relaxing day in the middle of our whirlwind adventure back east. We topped it off with a nice meal with the West Coast Fam
