I'm a Class Act

So for our anniversary I went all classy and stuff and took the Mrs. to a cafeteria for our big celebration, how classy right? Okay we really went to the National Museum of the American Indian to see a new exhibit by Fritz Scholder called Indian / Not Indian. Scholder has been called the most influential , prolific and controversial figures in Native art. While we are used to seeing the usual natives with "feathers in their hair" and "bows and arrows" Scholder went beyond that and also showed Native Americans through the 60's and 70's and included dark times with alcohol, drugs and destitution.

An example of his work. Named "Mad Indian No. 3 was painted in 1970 and portrayed the strained relationship with the US.

Another Scholder painting.

And then we had lunch at the Mitsitam Cafe located in the Museum. This place has been voted one of the best lunch spots in DC, and for a good reason.
