After a week of rolling around in double Big Macs and Boston Cream cake I'm back to trying to lose another 10 or so make that 13 or so after the Big Macs. That said we got a little reprieve in the weather today and headed out for a hike. We did the Lake Gertrude trail that we don't do often because it is a leach trail and the boy must be able to run, but we figured no one would be around so we threw caution and the law to the wind. The nice thing about this trail is it is maintained well and easy even in sloppy muddy weather thanks to a friend of ours who maintains the trails at the park. So between the hike, some other walking and the walk up and down Heartbreak Hill I got about 5 miles in today. Here are a few shots from today's trail...

This is a view of the back of Lake Gert, the lake itself is about a 2 mile hike along the shore. The cool thing is while facing this way you look and feel like your deep in the woods but if you turn around you have the next picture.

And poof your at the ocean and on the beach

To put it in perspective, this little piece of land separates two worlds

Along the east side the trail rises up to about 50'

This is one of the Mrs. favorite spots in the park, it is a little spit that juts out into the lake, very quiet and serene

At the trail head is this old World War II munitions bunker. It is located about a half mile from the guns up on Miller Point, and is placed that far away in case the guns were bombed it would not blow up the munitions
