Oh give me a home....

I mentioned this before but I figured seeing as there are no new photos today I would post some of these little critters. When we came to Kodiak I knew we would see whales and eagles and bears oh my! but I was not expecting buffalo or I should call them by there real name American Bison. But low and behold on one of our first adventures out the road we were startled coming around the corner by about 10 of these huge critters.

These guys were grazing on a hill near Fossil Beach, there are only a few in the picture but total there where about 40 - 50

When the kids where here we took a ride down to the Pasagshak River. As soon as we parked we saw this herd on the other side of the river and thought now that's cool... a real buffalo stampede even with Cowboys on horses (or is that Buffaloboys???)

Everyone was excited and we figured no big deal there is a river between us and them, but they were still stampeding and running out of beach real quick

Then all of a sudden Holy S$^& !! they hit the river and came ashore no more than 50' from us.

Fortunately they stayed down at the waters edge and ran right by us about 30'. Was an awesome sight.

I think you showed me that before, but it's still freakin awesome. Or "wicked" as you Easterners would say. Did it sound like the movies, with the thundering hoofs and all? Can you imagine tens of millions of them on the great plains?
